Staff health and wellbeing day
20th April 2018
The 2018 Staff Health & Wellbeing Day took place on Thursday, 19 April 2018. Organised by the hospital’s Healthy Ireland Committee, there were stands on a variety of topics.
The day started off with special breakfast bags, organised by our wonderful catering team, available to staff from 07:00-09:00. Then from 09:30-13:30, in the convent training room, staff were invited to learn more about a range of health and wellbeing opportunities available both within and outside the hospital. Money-saving opportunities for staff combined with environmentally friendly transport options, in the form of information on the Bike To Work scheme and the TaxSaver scheme. A food pyramid display and BMI testing were on offer from the nutrition and dietetics team. Physiotherapist Andy McDonough was on hand to give advice on running to anyone from complete beginners to those training for marathons and physiotherapist Barbara Mullan gave a lunchtime Tai Chi demonstration. The hospital librarian had the Library Wellbeing Collection on display. Books in this collection facilitate staff self-care by covering a wide range of topics including everything from anxiety and bereavement to exercise and money management. There were also stands on diabetes and alcohol awareness as well as a lovely mindfulness, meditation and stress management display from the occupational therapy team. You can see some of the photos from the day on our hospital Twitter account.
The Healthy Ireland Committee runs a range of activities for hospital staff throughout the year. Keep an eye on the Healthy Ireland noticeboard outside the canteen for the latest information.
