Library and Information Service

The Library and Information Service (LIS) supports the professional education and research needs of staff and students, as well as providing support in clinical decision-making. It is open to all staff working in St. Michael’s Hospital or St. Vincent’s University Hospital, all UCD staff working in either hospital and all UCD students on placement in either hospital.

Location and Access: The library is located on the Annexe ground floor. Entry is by swipe access only, using ID cards provided by the ICT Department.

Our Services

The library offers: Study space, PCs, Wi-Fi, print/copy/scan & binding facilities.
Books may be borrowed during staffed hours.

Using library resources: The librarian provides training and support, to help you to make use of the full range of online and print resources. Group and one-to-one sessions are available on topics such as information literacy, search skills, online databases, referencing and citation software, clinical audit and publication of research.

The LIS website: https://library.svhg.ie provides access to our electronic resources including online journals, databases and our online catalogue. Remote access requires authentication. Staff can request this from the librarian.

The website also offers forms for staff requesting:

  • a journal article using our document supply service
  • a literature search to support a clinical query
  • borrower registration
  • remote access to online resources.
