Library and Information Service
The Library and Information Service (LIS) supports the professional education and research needs of health service staff and students, as well as providing support in clinical decision making. It is open to all staff working in St. Michael’s Hospital or St. Vincent’s University Hospital, all UCD staff working in either hospital, and all UCD students on placement in either hospital.
Using library resources
Your time is valuable. The librarian provides training and support to help you to make use of the full range of online and print resources available to you. Group and one-to-one sessions are available on topics such as search skills, online databases, referencing and citation software, clinical audit and publication of research.
Accessing the LIS
The LIS is located on the annexe ground floor in the hospital. Staff may enter the LIS by using their St. Michael’s ID cards. Books may only be borrowed during staffed hours.
The LIS website https://library.svhg.ie provides staff with access to our full suite of electronic resources including online journals, databases and our online catalogue. Remote access requests require authentication. Staff can request a username and ID from the librarian.
The website also offers interactive forms which staff can use to request:
- a journal article
- a literature search to support a clinical query
- borrower registration
- remote access to online resources.
Other online services include a calendar of events, library opening hours and links to a range of LIS publications and guides.
