Sober for October

3rd October 2018

Go Sober for October Ireland!

St Michael’s Hospital is encouraging all staff and patients to Go Sober for October as part of our Healthy Ireland campaign.

88 deaths occur every month in Ireland which are directly attributable to alcohol. In Ireland, 900 people are diagnosed with alcohol-related cancers annually and around 500 people die from these diseases every year. Source: HSE.ie

The campaign is the brainchild of Macmillan Cancer Support in the UK. For more information take a look at www.gosober.org.uk

We are challenging social drinkers to change their habits for a month – 31 days to be precise – and make some healthy lifestyle changes. The benefits are plentiful from increased energy levels, better hydration, thinking clearer and best of all no hangover! You will also be raising some money for a great charity at the same time.

We advise heavy drinkers or people dependent on alcohol to speak with their GP before signing up to Go Sober. We also encourage people to drink responsibly and to stick to the recommended daily guidelines for the rest of the year.
