Dr. Gerard J. Agnew studied medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, graduating in 2002. He undertook general training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Ireland, spending time at the Coombe Women and Infants’ University Hospital, the National Maternity Hospital, The South Infirmary and Victoria University Hospital and Cork University Maternity Hospital.
While a registrar at the South Infirmary and Victoria University Hospital in 2008, Dr. Agnew was named as the hospitals’ “Doctor of the Year.”
In 2009, Dr. Agnew was awarded the prestigious Richard Steevens scholarship. This HSE initiative facilitated training abroad for outstanding Irish graduates. Dr. Agnew spent two years in Melbourne as a clinical fellow in Urogynaecology, Laparoscopy and Pelvic Floor Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Agnew is qualified as an instructor in the Management of Obstetric Emergency and Trauma (MOET).
In 2012, Dr. Agnew was appointed as a consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist and Urogynaecologist at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles St. and St. Vincents’ Healthcare Group.
Dr. Agnew has won several awards for research presentations and is currently a reviewer for the International Urogynaecology Journal.
Dr. Agnews’ main areas of interest are urogynaecology, laparoscopy, pelvic floor reconstructive surgery and maternity care with a special focus on protecting and restoring the pelvic floor and perineum after pregnancy and delivery.
Patients can attend Dr. Agnew at the recently established Multidisciplinary Pelvic Floor Centre at St. Michaels Hospital. Dr. Agnew also runs a urogynaecology clinic and public antenatal clinic at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles St.
