How to refer to the Pelvic Floor Centre
A GP referral is needed to access the Pelvic Floor Centre services.
Referrals can be posted to:
Pelvic Floor Centre
Outpatient department
St. Michael’s Hospital
Lwr George’s Street
Dun Laoghaire
GP referrals can also be submitted electronically via Healthlink.
A referral from your GP is required to attend the Pelvic Floor Centre. Referrals are then triaged and an appointment will be sent out to you. Your initial appointment will consist of a detailed assessment by phone by our clinical nurse specialist who will guide your care and discuss your next steps. You will be directed towards a possible combination of treatments which may include:
- Web based video educational programme
- Advice and exercise leaflets
- Referral for testing procedures
- Referral to specialist physiotherapy services
- Referral to our team of medical consultants
- Referral for intervention
- Ongoing clinical nurse specialist follow up
If further assessment/management is required, you will be offered an appointment to attend the clinic, as appropriate.
Treatment Options
Pelvic floor dysfunction can be complex. Therefore, management may require a combination of treatments in order to fully manage the problem. Treatment options will be discussed with you and an individualised plan will be devised.
Cancellations and No shows
We understand that situations arise whereby you may need to cancel your appointment and we would appreciate as much advance notice as possible. This enables us to offer the appointment to another patient on our waiting list.
Patients who do not attend for their Pelvic Floor Centre appointment without a call to cancel are considered a No Show and will be discharged back to their referring doctor.
