Pelvic Floor Centre

The Pelvic Floor Centre, established in 2013 is located at St. Michael’s Hospital Dun Laoghaire and is Ireland’s first truly and only multidisciplinary clinic for the assessment and management of pelvic floor dysfunction.

Pelvic floor dysfunction is a global term used to describe conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse, bladder or bowel incontinence, obstructive defaecation disorder or dyspareunia.

Traditionally these conditions have been treated in isolation by a variety of specialists working independently. However, at the Pelvic Floor Centre the highly qualified team work in collaboration.

The team consists of a clinical nurse specialist, specialist pelvic health physiotherapists, a perineal specialist, a consultant urogynaecologist and a consultant colorectal surgeon, along with other support team members.

The Pelvic Floor Centre provides state of the art diagnostic technology, and offers a range of conservative, medical and surgical therapies to manage these often distressing and uncomfortable conditions.

There is a strong focus in the clinic on patient education, patient involvement and commitment to modification of lifestyle and activities to address and improve symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction.
